Angie and Hugh spent the first half of October in Nepal, where they ascended to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) at 4,130metres (13,550ft). Very hot with good views in the mornings, the days generally clouded over from mid-day onwards leading to thick cloud at higher altitudes. The sunrise over Annapurna I at ABC was great. The best views were of Machhapuchre, the so called ‘fish tail’ peak, which was first viewed from afar and gradually drew nearer and nearer to, before eventually passing by its foot at the entrance to the Annapurna Sanctuary. Below left shows their first view of Machhapuchre from their first nights stay at Dhampus, and below right an early view of Annapurna South. |
